Pattern page: Make your own paper lantern.
Pattern Pages help you make great projects! This project creates a paper lantern and offers lots of room for creativity.  You can use thin paper to let more light shine or you can use heavier paper (creates a sturdy cylinder).  Paint or use markers on translucent paper.  Cut out holes on heavier paper.  When you are satisfied with your pattern, roll the paper into a cylinder shape and tape it together.  Place your cylinder over a flashlight and voila! a lantern.  You can also place your lantern over a votive candle (that is safely set into a glass votive holder).  Be very careful to avoid flames and be absolutely sure to explain (even to babies) that matches, flames, candles and fire are never for them to touch - only for grown-ups.  Tin lanterns.
