Bright Bunnies Enjoy a Picnic
A Bunny Fun Story

One warm day, the Bright Pink Bunny decided to have a picnic to celebrate the arrival of summer. The Bright Pink Bunny sent invitations to the Bright Orange Bunny and the Bright Blue Bunny.

Inside each invitation the Bright Pink Bunny wrote: "Please come and join me on a picnic to celebrate summer! Meet me at lunchtime. I will pack a picnic lunch for all of us. If you would like to bring something, please bring something that begins with the letter "p".

When it was time for lunch, it started to rain outside! The Bright Pink Bunny decided to have the picnic inside instead. To get ready, the Bright Pink Bunny laid out a nice soft green blanket.

The green color of the blanket reminded the Bright Pink Bunny of the soft green grass growing outside.

Soon the Bright Orange Bunny arrived and called out, "Hello!" The Bright Orange Bunny brushed the raindrops from its fur and said, "Thank you for inviting me to your picnic. It is raining very hard outside. I'm so glad you decided to have our picnic inside."

The Bright Pink Bunny said, "Well, thank you for coming over in the rain." Then the Bright Pink Bunny noticed that the Bright Orange Bunny was carrying a purple basket.

The Bright Pink Bunny smiled and asked, "Did you bring a purple basket because the word "purple" begins with the letter "p"? The Bright Orange Bunny said, "Yes! But I also packed pickles inside because "pickle" begins with the letter "p" -- and because I like to eat pickles!"

The two friends began to unpack the large picnic basket.

First, they took out two pies. The Bright Pink Bunny explained: "I made two picnic pies especially for today." The Bright Orange Bunny asked, "What is picnic pie? How do you make it?" The Bright Pink Bunny said, "Picnic pie is full of delicious things and lots of colors. The one you are holding has potato slices, peas and sweet peppers. The one I am holding has plums, peaches and persimmons!"

Soon the Bright Blue Bunny arrived, carrying a pitcher made from a pink petunia flower!

The Bright Pink Bunny said, "Welcome to our picnic! What a beautiful pitcher!" The Bright Blue Bunny said, "Thank you! And thank you for inviting me to your picnic." The Bright Orange Bunny asked what was in the pitcher. The Bright Blue Bunny said, "this is picnic punch!"

The Bright Blue Bunny poured everyone a nutshell full of picnic punch. The Bright Pink Bunny said, "This is delicious. I would love to have your recipe for picnic punch." The Bright Blue Bunny said, "I'll write it out for you later. But it is made from water, lemon juice and orange juice."

While they ate their picnic, the Bright Pink Bunny said, "This picnic is to celebrate summer. Let's share some of our favorite things about summer. I love the flowers that bloom everywhere!" The Bright Orange Bunny said, "I love that even the raindrops feel warm during the summer." The Bright Blue Bunny said, "I love being able to pick delicious vegetables and ripe fruits from the garden."

When all the lunch food was finished, the Bright Bunnies cleaned up. The Bright Pink Bunny surprised everyone by saying, "I still have a small treat in my picnic basket for our dessert." What do you think the Bright Pink Bunny packed for a dessert treat? Here are some hints if you would like to try to guess our idea: it is a delicious fruit and it begins with the letter "p."
